The Monastic Barn,
Barton Square

Step inside Ely’s magnificent Monastic Barn during Heritage Open Days and discover one of the finest surviving medieval barns in Europe. Built in the 14th century to store grain and produce for the monks of Ely Cathedral, this remarkable timber-framed building offers a fascinating glimpse into monastic life and medieval craftsmanship. Free to explore for this special event, visitors can admire its impressive architecture, learn about its rich history and experience a rarely seen part of Ely’s remarkable heritage.

Restriction to Admissions – Saturday 4th July 2026

 

Oliver Cromwell’s House will be closed to General Admissions between 12 Midday and 1pm due to a pre-booked Guided Tour.

 

Ely’s Tourist Information Centre and Gift Shop will remain open from 11am until 4 pm.

 

We apologise for any inconvenience. 

 

House Closure – 25th February 2025

General Admission to Oliver Cromwell’s House will be delayed today until 1pm due to a pre-booked educational  tours.

The Tourist Information Centre and Gift Shop remain open between 11am and 4pm.

 

Admissions to Oliver Cromwell’s House – Sunday 9th August 2026

Due to a pre-booked educational tour, there will be no General Admissions to Oliver Cromwell’s House from12 Midday until 2 pm.
 
The Gift Shop and Tourist Information Centre remain.
