The Fens have always been a place of stories.
For centuries, people living amongst this strange landscape of water, mist and vast skies have told tales of witches and wise folk, strange beasts, omens, old customs, superstition and things that simply couldn’t be explained.
Join us for a journey through Ely’s rich folklore and discover the stories our ancestors told to make sense of the world around them. From peculiar beliefs and protective traditions to legendary creatures and tales passed down through generations, explore a side of local history where fact, folklore and the fantastical become wonderfully tangled.
Our journey then continues at Ely Community Cinema for a special screening of Once Upon a Time in Suffolk, taking us beyond the Fens and deeper into the extraordinary folklore of East Anglia.
Together, the tour and film create an evening celebrating the stories, traditions and wonderfully strange beliefs that have survived across our region for centuries.
Old stories. Strange creatures. Ancient beliefs.
The showing of the film commences at 19:30 and will include a special Q&A with those involved – ending approx. 22:30
Admission is included in the ticket price.
